Procedures

Surgical Services

Scheduled general surgery and scopes in one operating room. Nearly everyone goes home the same afternoon.

We have one operating room and a surgeon who uses it two days a week. That is enough for a considerable amount of the surgery people in this county actually need.

Regularly performed here: hernia repair, gallbladder removal, appendectomy, removal of skin lesions and cysts, drainage procedures, colonoscopy, and upper endoscopy.

Colonoscopy is worth singling out. Screening from age 45 catches colorectal cancer early, or catches the polyp before it becomes cancer at all, and it is one of the clearest wins in preventive medicine. The reason people skip it is almost never the risk. It is the prep, the day off work, and the drive. We cannot help with the prep, but we can remove the drive.

Before any procedure you will meet the surgeon, go through what is being done and why, and get written instructions covering what to stop taking and when to stop eating. Read them. Most same day cancellations happen because someone had breakfast.

Arrange a ride. Anything involving sedation means you are not driving yourself home, and we will not discharge you to an empty parking lot.

Surgery we do not do here gets referred, and we arrange the appointment rather than handing you a phone number.
