Price Transparency

Standard charges, the machine readable charge file, and how to get an estimate before you are treated.

Federal law requires hospitals to publish what they charge. We would rather you use it than be surprised by a bill, so here is all of it in one place, with plain explanations of what each thing actually is.

Get an estimate for your own situation

This is what most people actually want. Our patient estimator asks what procedure you are having and what insurance you carry, and returns an estimate for your out of pocket cost rather than a list price nobody pays.

You can also just call. Ask for a financial counselor at (620) 555-0150 and a person will walk through it with you, including whether you qualify for financial assistance. There is no charge for asking and it does not affect your care.

Machine readable file of standard charges

This is the complete file federal law requires, covering every item and service, with gross charges, discounted cash prices, and payer specific negotiated rates. It is a large CSV intended for researchers, employers, and price comparison tools rather than for reading at a kitchen table.

Download the machine readable file (CSV)

No login, no form, no email address required. That is deliberate and it is also the law.

What the numbers mean

  • Gross charge. The list price before any discount. Almost nobody pays this, and it is the least useful number in the file.
  • Discounted cash price. What you pay if you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance. Usually far below the gross charge, and worth asking about.
  • Payer specific negotiated rate. What a particular insurer has agreed to pay us. If you are insured, your share is calculated from this, not from the gross charge.
  • De-identified minimum and maximum. The lowest and highest negotiated rates across all payers, with the payer names removed.

Your right to a good faith estimate

Separately from the file above, the No Surprises Act gives you the right to a written good faith estimate before a scheduled service if you are uninsured or not using insurance. Ask for one when you schedule. We will give you a real number.

If the final bill comes in substantially above the estimate, you can dispute it. Call the billing office first, because in our experience most of those are resolved in a phone call.
