Nutrition and Diabetes Education

A dietitian who builds the plan around what the grocery store in town actually stocks.

Our registered dietitian sees patients one at a time, for diabetes and prediabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, high cholesterol, celiac disease, food allergy, and weight.

Diabetes education is the bulk of it, and it is genuinely worth doing. Understanding what your numbers mean, using a meter or a continuous monitor properly, knowing how a particular meal or an afternoon of physical work will move your blood sugar, and recognizing early that something is heading the wrong way. People who go through it have measurably fewer complications years later. Medicare and most insurers cover it after a diabetes diagnosis.

On the advice itself: it is built around your actual kitchen. A plan written around ingredients that nobody within forty miles sells is not a plan, it is a reason to feel like a failure. If you eat what comes out of the garden in August and out of the freezer in February, we will work with that. If you are cooking for a household that is not going to eat differently for your sake, we will work with that too.

We also see patients on the inpatient floor and residents at long term care, and we do the nutrition side of wound care, since a wound cannot rebuild tissue out of nothing.
